Print media

I’ve published articles and criticism on history and current affairs in The Irish Times, The Sunday Business Post, History Ireland, Vincent Browne’s Village Magazine, Jacobin, The Irish Literary Supplement and most notably Ireland’s Own where I had the front cover. I wasn’t on the front cover though. That would have been amazing. There’s still time.

Television

In the olden days I contributed to historical documentaries including:

  • My Great War (on a working class family’s experience of WW1, broadcast on RTÉ 1 in 2014),
  • Stailc 1913 (an examination of the 1913 Lockout to be broadcast by TG4 autumn 2013),
  • Labour’s Way (a two part documentary on the Labour Party broadcast RTÉ 1, May 2012),
  • Taoiseach (broadcast by TV3 in 2010),
  • Seán Lemass: Maker of Modern Ireland (broadcast by RTÉ 1).

and was a contributor on Tonight with Vincent Browne on TV3.

Radio

I have been a guest on various current affairs shows including the RTÉ Radio 1 programmes including election coverage on RTÉ 1, The Business, Late Debate, Drivetime, This Week, Saturday with Claire Byrne, The Vincent Browne ShowThe Tubridy Show and Newstalk’s The Right Hook, Hook’s Saturday Sit in and Lunchtime with Jonathan Healy and to a number of programmes on local radio.

I have contributed to discussions on Irish history on Talking History on Newstalk 106-108FM, the History Show on RTÉ Radio 1 and featured in the series of podcasts produced by the station to commemorate the 1913 Lockout. I also gave one of the Thomas Davis Lectures on Ireland and the Great War which was broadcast in 2008.

I can be contacted on niamh.puirseil at gmail.com or @niamhpuirseil on twitter. But not about complaints please.

The time I was on TV in the pub.
I disapprove of the ‘photo of me on the telly’ genre but my pal Paul sent me this when he saw me on TV in the pub so it’s okay actually.
